"Durbin initially refused to apologize.

'This administration should apologize to the American people for abandoning the Geneva Conventions and authorizing torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure,' he said the day after his initial comments.

By last Friday, Durbin was trying to clarify his comments, yet the White House and top Republicans including Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist refused to relent.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, in an interview scheduled for broadcast Wednesday on Fox News radio's 'The Tony Snow Show,' tried to equate the comment with actress Jane Fonda calling U.S. soldiers war criminals during a visit to North Vietnam in 1972.

On Tuesday, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, a fellow Democrat, added his voice to the chorus of criticism, saying, 'I think it's a disgrace to say that any man or woman in the military would act like that.'

Durbin said in his apology: 'I made reference to Nazis, to Soviets, and other repressive regimes. Mr. President, I've come to understand that's a very poor choice of words.'"

Okay, here is what happened:

1. The number TWO Demogog in the U.S. Senate, THE DICK from Illinois, echoed Amnesty International's statement a week before about Guantanamo being a Gulag. This was IN SUPPORT OF NGO'S. (Educate yourself about Transnational Socialism... The Tranzis, and this will make sense to you.) Understand that this is not only the Demogogs, this is about ALL Socialist/Communist plans. They want to run as an unelected elite. If you don't think so, you are naive...

2. THE DICK refused to apologize for his comments, keeping his comments viable in Al Jazzeera (sp?). He "stood" by his statement.

3. THE DICK looked around and saw a bunch of people calling him a disrespectful, dispicable traitor, who disparages American Troops and encourages our enemies. Didn't change the statement.

4. DA MAYOR'S kid called THE DICK and told him to fix it. My best guess is Daley was hearing from his ward heelers in the ethnic neighborhoods of Chicago which contain citizens who most probably;

Have actually lived in the Gulag, or, Have actually lived under the Nazis, or, Have actually been subject to the Khmer Rouge atrocities.

And/Or,

Have their children serving our Nation, and don't like it for their reputations to be besmirched, or don't like it that they are under increased risk in combat since their DICK gave courage and comfort to the enemy.

DICK, enjoy the rest of your term. Go live on the beach. Your career is over if my friends in Southern Illinois have their way. (remember, East St. Louis votes will be hard to come by, the buyers will be in the Federal Slam).
